Albania has become one of my favorite destinations for family camping. Between the Adriatic coastline, forested mountain valleys, and warm, welcoming locals, it’s the kind of place where kids can run free while adults relax under fig trees or beside turquoise waters. What surprised me most on my first trip was how many of the campgrounds were not just kid-friendly but designed with families in mind—think playgrounds, animals to feed, safe swimming zones, and plenty of shade.

Camping in Albania feels a lot more personal than in many Western European destinations. Hosts will often stop by with fresh fruit or a homemade raki toast, and kids are welcomed like part of the family. Lake Shkodra Resort – Shkodra

Lake Shkodra Resort tops my list for its perfect blend of scenery, comfort, and family-friendly amenities. Located right on the shores of Lake Shkodra, this campground offers large grassy pitches, private lake access, and an on-site restaurant with a kid-friendly menu.

My kids loved the playground and running barefoot on the soft lawns that slope gently into the lake. The water is calm and shallow along the shoreline, making it safe for younger swimmers. Kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent, and there’s even a floating dock that kept the older kids entertained for hours.

The showers and bathrooms are spotless, and there are family-sized washrooms which made life much easier. It’s also a short drive to the Rozafa Castle and the city of Shkodra, which has pedestrian-friendly streets and ice cream stands that made for a perfect day trip.

Kamping Pa Emer – Karpen

Kamping Pa Emer is one of the most unique beach campgrounds I’ve visited anywhere in Europe. Located south of Durrës, it’s built around a private sandy cove with wooden walkways, palm trees, and a handcrafted pier that leads out to a tiny island restaurant.

What makes this place shine for families is its natural enclosure—kids can play freely without you having to worry about traffic or wandering far. There’s a large grassy area for tents, shaded spots for campervans, and a shallow beach where the little ones can splash around while you sip coffee in the shade.

They also offer beachside cabins if you want a break from the tent, and the restaurant serves simple, homemade dishes perfect for picky eaters. With hammocks, shaded picnic tables, and friendly hosts, it’s the kind of place where time slows down and days pass easily.

Camping Gjirokastër – Gjirokastër

For families who like mixing history with their camping, Camping Gjirokastër is a fantastic base. It’s located just a short walk from the UNESCO World Heritage town of Gjirokastër, with its cobbled streets, Ottoman-style houses, and massive stone castle.

The campground itself is small and peaceful, tucked between olive trees and terraced gardens. There’s a shaded common area with outdoor kitchen space and plenty of room for kids to explore. The owners are incredibly welcoming and often organize tours or cooking classes that the whole family can enjoy.

The camping area is fenced and secure, with well-maintained restrooms and a small on-site café. What I appreciated most was the shaded picnic areas and outdoor kitchen where families would gather to cook, share stories, and let the kids play together until bedtime.

It’s easy to take a short boat ride to the nearby islands, and the water is calm and crystal clear—perfect for snorkeling or floating with inflatables. We spent entire days here without ever feeling the need to leave the campsite, and the kids never got bored.

Farma Sotira – Leskovik Region

Farma Sotira is a rural escape in southern Albania that feels more like a mountain farm than a traditional campground—and that’s exactly why it’s so great for families. Set in a lush valley with spring-fed ponds and a small river, the campground is surrounded by forest and mountains.

Kids can help feed the animals, including horses, goats, and rabbits, or join a horseback riding session with a local guide. The natural swimming pool, filled with cold spring water, is a thrill for both kids and adults on hot summer days.

There’s no better way to disconnect and slow down than to cook dinner over a wood fire while your kids swing in a hammock nearby. The traditional food served at the farm’s restaurant is hearty and fresh, and the homemade cheese was so good we bought extra to take with us.

Camping Himara – Himarë

Himara is one of my favorite coastal towns in Albania, and Camping Himara puts you close to both town amenities and a quiet, pebbled beach. If you’re flying into Albania and want to camp near the capital before heading out to the mountains or coast, Camping Tirana is a convenient and surprisingly family-friendly option. It’s located on a peaceful property outside the city, surrounded by vineyards and open fields.

This place is run by a warm and helpful Dutch-Albanian couple who clearly love having families around. There’s a big trampoline, a pool in summer, and lots of open space to run and play. Parents can enjoy a glass of local wine while the kids kick a soccer ball across the grass.

The proximity to Tirana means you can take day trips into the capital to explore the vibrant markets, city parks, and the impressive Bunk’Art museum, before returning to a quiet countryside camp.

Camping Peshkopi – Eastern Albania

Peshkopi might not be on every tourist’s radar, but that’s part of its charm. The surrounding area is full of rolling hills, thermal springs, and off-the-beaten-path hikes that offer a different side of Albania.

The small family-run campground here offers a genuine local experience. Kids can roam freely, interact with farm animals, and watch how cheese is made the traditional way. The nearby thermal baths are a short walk from camp and offer a fun, natural spa experience.

What made this site memorable for me was how quiet and relaxing it felt. Without crowds or heavy traffic, the kids could play freely while we enjoyed uninterrupted views and simple meals cooked over an open fire.
